Organisations and Support
A steering committee (SC) will be installed for this project, chaired by Prof. Frank Snoek from the Diabetes Psychology Research Group of the VU University Medical Centre, Amsterdam. Mr. Søren Skovlund (DAWN) will serve as Honorary Secretary and liaison with Novo Nordisk/DAWN programme. All participating centres are represented in the SC by at least one principal investigator. The SC will act as writing team for publications from this project, with the possibility for centres to report on local data.
The committee will meet once or twice a year, if possible combined with international conferences. Communication will mostly be via e-mail and telephone.
For the purpose of this project, Ms. Noortje Zandbelt, a junior psychologist/ researcher (0.6 FTE, funded by Novo Nordisk) is appointed at the VUMC (February 2006 – 2009), to assist in setting up the project, developing and distributing materials and coordinating activities.
Support from local Novo Nordisk affiliates will be sought to facilitate the project in the different countries. DAWN is a non-commercial initiative. In no way this project will impact medical treatment, i.e. choice of medication and/or insulin pens, in any of the participating centres.
